The Sacramento Winter HS Tournament will take place on Saturday, January 12 at Rio Americano High School. This competition features separate Varsity and JV Divisions; the field cap is currently 20. Sacramento-area teams can begin registering now; Bay Area teams cannot register until Monday, December 24.

Cal Cup #2 [Rescheduled]

We have decided to reschedule Cal Cup #2 for Saturday, January 19 due to concerns regarding the air quality this Saturday; the competition will probably still take place at Bellarmine but we will confirm that soon. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Stay tuned for announcements regarding other upcoming events.

Cal Cup #2 (Nov 17)

Cal Cup #2 (Cal Classic) is taking place on Saturday, November 17.

Registration takes place on the NAQT website here.

Teams can still purchase the package at Cal Cup #2. If your team is planning to purchase the package at Cal Cup #2 please indicate that in the “other information” section at the bottom of your team’s registration page.

December MS Tournament @ Sunol Glen

The December MS Tournament is taking place at Sunol Glen School in Sunol on Sunday, December 2; this is the tournament that was originally planned for Stanford. A reminder that schools that competed at the September Sacramento tournament cannot also compete at this tournament (both competitions are using NAQT MS-27). Entry fee information can be found here.
Registration for the 12/2 Sunol Glen MS tournament will open this Friday (Oct 26) on the NAQT website here. The tournament can only accommodate 20 teams so I expect the field to fill quickly.

November MS Tournament @ Leland HS

Registration is now open for the November MS Tournament, to be held at Leland High School in San Jose on Sunday, November 11. Entry fee information can be found here.
Schools that compete at the 11/11 Leland tournament cannot also compete at the December 1 Sacramento MS Tournament at da Vinci (both competitions are using NAQT MS-28). Bay Area teams intending on playing at the Sacramento tournament can register for that event beginning on October 29.
Registration for the 11/11 Leland MS tournament takes place on the NAQT website here.

Bay Area Fall MS Tournament [postponed]

The Bay Area Fall MS Tournament (originally planned for Saturday, October 13 at Stanford) will be postponed to a yet-undetermined date (but will not take place at Stanford). We will keep everyone posted.

Registration for the 2018-2019 California Cup

Registration is now open for Cal Cup #1, to be held on Saturday, October 27 at St. Francis HS in Mountain View. To register for Cal Cup #1, please fill out this registration form.

Like last year, this competition features three divisions (Competitive, Standard, Novice). Let us know if you are unsure which division your team should play in; we reserve the right to move teams to different divisions. The last day to register is Wednesday, October 24. Teams can drop without penalty by 6PM on Friday, October 26. Send us an email (californiacupquizbowl@gmail.com) if you would like to pay in advance. Please write out any checks to Stanford Quiz Bowl Club (do not write them out to NCQBA or Quiz Bowl Club). Middle School teams are welcome to compete but should be aware that they will be competing against high school teams on high school level questions. Teams can consist of up to 6 players in total.

We are setting an initial field cap of 58 teams: 18 teams in the Competitive division and 20 teams each in Standard and Novice. We may be able to expand later; we have updated the waitlist policies.

We are implementing the following policy for Cal Cup #1: All teams must have a roster submitted by the Cal Cup #1 registration deadline (11:59PM on Oct 24); rosters do not have to be finalized by that time and can be changed after. Teams that do not have any roster indicated by that time will be dropped from the tournament and may not be able to re-enter the field. Teams can update their rosters by emailing us at californiacupquizbowl@gmail.com.

A reminder that only teams that register for the full package (play 4 tournaments for the price of 3) will be eligible for the overall title and prizes awarded at the end of Cal Cup #4. Teams that purchase the package are given priority in case there is a waitlist.

Cal Cup #2 will take place on Saturday, November 17 (location TBA). Cal Cup #2 is the only competition that features NAQT questions (so it is the only Cal Cup tournament that is a qualifier for HSNCT). Registration for Cal Cup #2 will open following the completion of Cal Cup #1.

We have not confirmed the dates for Cal Cup #3 and Cal Cup #4. We have included a couple of questions at the end of the Cal Cup #1 registration form regarding which dates teams prefer for #3 and #4.

Complete details about California Cup can be found here.
