Results from Cal Cup #3 / Parking Tickets / Upcoming Events

Congratulations to Stanford Online A for winning the Competitive Division, to Challenger-Almaden for winning the Standard Division, and to Saint Francis B for winning the Novice Division at Cal Cup #3! We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their help and Mrs. Kayton for her assistance with logistics and reserving the classrooms.

We were informed that many people received a parking ticket on Saturday. If you did, please email Sue Kayton (kayton@alum.mit.edu) a legible scan of your parking ticket; she will try to get them all fixed

Cal Cup #3 (March 16) Registration is now open

Cal Cup #3 is taking place on Saturday, March 16 at Menlo-Atherton (public) High School in Atherton. Check-in will start at 8:30AM and we will start round 1 no later than 9AM. We will have a field cap of 18 in Competitive, 25 in Standard, and 30 in Novice. Pizza will be available for purchase on-site for lunch.

To register, please fill out this registration form (all teams planning to play must fill out the form- including package teams).

Wednesday, March 13 is the last date to register; all teams must have a roster posted by the end of March 13 (doesn’t have to be final and can be changed).

Entry fee details can be found here. Teams can pay by cash or check at check-in on March 16. If paying by check, please make the check out to “ASUC/Quiz Bowl Club” (do not write out any checks to NCQBA or Stanford Quiz Bowl). If you would like to prepay, please Venmo the appropriate amount to @aywang01, then email Annie at aywang01@gmail.com to confirm receipt. For more options, email Annie.

Sacramento March MS Tournament Results

Congratulations to Pleasanton Scholars B for winning the Varsity Division and to Cavitt B for winning the JV Division at the Sacramento March Quiz Bowl Tournament for Middle School Teams! Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for your assistance and to Mr. Hansen/Churchill for hosting.

Cal Cup #3 has been postponed to March 16

We learned this afternoon of additional fees that would be owed for running Cal Cup #3 at Deer Valley HS; such fees would make it prohibitively expensive to run the event there. Therefore, Cal Cup #3 will not be taking place on Saturday.

We will run Cal Cup #3 on Saturday, March 16 (location TBA). When the location of Cal Cup #3 on March 16 is confirmed we will open registration again (any teams that already registered will have to register again at that time).

We ask that one representative from each school please fill out this question form regarding the date of Cal Cup #4.

We apologize for any confusion and/or inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience during this process.

Cal Cup #3 Update

We are currently trying to secure rooms at Deer Valley High School in Antioch for Cal Cup #3 on February 23 (DVHS does not have the entirety of next week off as many Bay Area schools do). We will let everyone know as soon as we hear back from the school. None of the South Bay schools were able to host this time.

If Deer Valley is unable to host then we will postpone Cal Cup #3 until March 16 (and run Cal Cup #4 in late March or mid-April).

Sacramento March MS Tournament

Registration is now open for the Sacramento March Middle School Tournament, to be held on Saturday, March 2 at Churchill MS in Carmichael. This event features separate JV/Varsity divisions.

Entry fee info is here. This competition is free for middle schools that have never played quiz bowl before.

Any interested Bay Area schools must wait until Tuesday, February 12 to register.

Upcoming Bay Area MS Tournaments

1) Registration is now open for the Bay Area February MS Tournament, to be held on Sunday, February 17 at Leland High School in San Jose. This competition features separate JV/Varsity divisions. Entry fee information is here.

Please note: schools that competed at the February 2 Sacramento MS Tournament cannot compete at the Feb 17 Leland Tournament.

2) The BASIS Fremont MS Tournament is taking place on Saturday, March 9. This competition features separate JV/Varsity divisions. Entry fee info is here. Register here. We currently have room for 3 more JV teams; a waitlist has started in Varsity.

The Sacramento March MS Tournament, to be held on Saturday, March 2 at Churchill MS in Carmichael, is using the same questions as the March 9 BASIS Fremont Tournament. Any interested Bay Area schools must wait until Tuesday, February 12 to register for the Sacramento March MS Tournament (to allow Sacramento-area schools some time to register).

Congratulations to De Anza B for winning the 2019 NorCal CCSCT. DeAnza A and B both qualified for the 2019 CCCT, to be held in Orlando in early March.

Cal Cup #2 Results

Congratulations to Escobar A for winning the Competitive Division, to Bellarmine C for winning the Standard Division, and to Challenger-Almaden for winning the Novice Division at Cal Cup #2! Thank you to the volunteers for your help, to Mr. Fleitas/Mr. Flowers/Bellarmine for hosting, and to all of the players, parents, and coaches for making the largest tournament in NorCal history a success!
