The main hub for discussing all things quiz bowl. The forums are cleanly moderated and divided into sections for high school, middle school, and collegiate players and coaches. New users are encouraged to read the rules and the information in the “Best of the Best” section before posting.

Quizbowl – Splash 2012
A PowerPoint presentation by MIT students Lily Chen and Adam Kalinich intended to introduce quiz bowl to new audiences. A very useful resource for introducing the game to aspiring players, as it compiles all essential aspects of quiz bowl into a highly accessible format.

Question Databases and Readers

Quizbowl Packet Archive
An archive of tens of thousands of questions from almost every non-copyrighted quiz bowl tournament since the 1990s available for free download. Question sets are organized chronologically and divided into “Middle School,” “High School,” and “Collegiate” sections. Be aware that copyrighted materialĀ notĀ available on the website includes NAQT questions and those used by competitions under David Madden’s International Academic Competitions umbrella organization.

QuizDB
A searchable and browsable database of quiz bowl questions that is useful for finding questions from a certain subject, set, or difficulty.

AseemsDB

A search database that is more comprehensive than QuizDB, but with a much less accessible UI.

QuizBug2

An efficient question reading interface designed by Northern California player Karan Gurazada. Be sure to read the provided help directions, as it is somewhat unintuitive at first.

Grapesmoker

Another searchable and browsable question database with only college level questions for more advanced players. Includes options to search for tossups/bonuses/both and answer/question/both.

ProtoBowl
A multiplayer quiz bowl application. Its settings are highly customizable, and players can change anything from the difficulty to the question distribution. As the lobby is often filled with tough competition, players are encouraged to set up private rooms.

Study Resources

NAQT’s You Gotta Know lists
NAQT’s series of lists and summaries for common topics that come up. It contains frequency lists for works of art, music, literature, and non-fiction, and short summaries of specific themes such as “deserts,” “Civil War battles,” or “Norse gods and goddesses.” Though players should not attempt to memorize the information presented in these lists, they can serve as a springboard for further study.

The Culture Guide Index

A somewhat disorganized but useful assortment of all kinds of topics. It is somewhat like a collegiate version of NAQT’s You Gotta Know lists, though frustratingly lacking in certain subject areas. A good starting place to start looking things up, though a bit advanced for most high schoolers; it is most useful for collegiate teams.

eBooks@Adelaide
A database of eBooks in the public domain, sponsored by Australia’s University of Adelaide. eBooks can be sorted by author, title, or subject material. eBooks are free to print or download and are displayed against a soothing background color.

Khan Academy

A repository of free educational videos covering a large variety of subjects, from math to economics to art history.
