Sacramento Winter HS Tournament

This competition will take place on Saturday, January 9 on Discord. We are using NAQT IS-195 for the Varsity Division and IS-198A for the JV Division.

The field cap, for now, is 12 for Varsity and 8 for JV. We are asking that middle school teams not play, sorry.

The entry fee is $60 per team with a $20 discount per staff provided. The minimum entry fee is $20 per team.

Bay Area teams and schools from outside NorCal may compete but must wait until Wednesday, December 30 at 12 noon (pacific) in order to register, to allow Sacramento schools the opportunity to register first.

Cal Cup #3 Registration is now open

Cal Cup #3 is taking place on Saturday, January 16 on Discord. We will be using Saturnalia for Competitive, RAFT II for Standard, and ERIS for Novice. We will implement the same priority list that we did at Cal Cup #2. Registration becomes first-come, first-serve on Tuesday, January 4; we will post the field and ask for rosters on that date. The field cap, for now, is 16 for each division. Entry fee information remains the same.
Churchill, Lowell, and Vista Del Lago have already heard the ERIS set and thus are ineligible to compete in the Novice Division at this tournament (but may compete in the other divisions).
Competitive teams should be aware that Saturnalia is a bit harder than a typical, regular-difficulty high school set.

Results from Cal Cup #2

Congratulations to Mission San Jose A for winning the Competitive Division, to Bellarmine A for winning the Standard Division, and to Harker C for winning the Novice Division at online Cal Cup #2! Thank you to all of the staff for your help!
Competitive results are here, Standard results are here, and Novice results are here.
Unfortunately, we received numerous allegations of cheating on Saturday; we will be addressing that subject in another email soon.

Cal Cup 2 Field List/Rosters

Field: The list of teams can be found here; we have 2 teams on the Competitive waitlist, 8 teams on the Standard waitlist, and 16 teams on the Novice waitlist. Check the field periodically for updates. Let us know ASAP if you plan to drop!

Rosters: Teams in the field are asked to provide a roster here; waitlist teams do not have to provide a roster until they are promoted into the field. Teams that are currently in the field that do not have a roster posted by the end of Thursday this week will be dropped from the field and may not be able to re-enter. Any subsequent roster updates can be emailed to us (californiacupquizbowl@gmail.com)

Registration for Cal Cup #2 (Dec 19) is now open!

Cal Cup #2 is taking place on Saturday, December 19 on Discord. We are using LONE STAR for Competitive+Standard and MOQBA Novice for Novice (not NAQT).

Registration for Cal Cup #2 takes place via this form. We will ask for rosters at a later time. The last day to register is Tuesday, December 15. We are setting the field cap at 16 teams in each division for now.

We are implementing the following priority list for Cal Cup #2 (like we did last year); our goal is to prioritize high school teams (since this is a high school tournament) as we expect the field to fill quickly.
1) Teams that provide an experienced moderator (based on our discretion) 2) Teams that provide a scorekeeper 3) Teams from new high schools 4) Teams that include at least one high school student that are not in any of the above categories 5) Middle school teams not in any of the above categories
Registration becomes first-come, first-serve on Monday, December 7; we will post the field on that date.

Results from Cal Cup #1

Congratulations to Stanford Online for winning the Competitive Division, to Mission San Jose C for winning the Standard Division, and to Saratoga C for winning the Novice Division at the first online Cal Cup tournament! We thank all of the players, coaches, and staff for making this competition a success. Complete stats/results can be found here.

Cal Cup #1 Updates

At this point we will only be accepting payment by check; let us know if this is an issue.

We’re still in the process of recruiting staff; expect an update later this week regarding the waitlists. Please indicate on your A team’s registration page if you are providing staff.

We are asking all teams in the field to post a roster no later than the end of Friday of this week; teams that do not have a roster by that time will be dropped from the field. Rosters can be edited afterwards. The last day to register is Tuesday, November 10.

The following teams have yet to post a roster: Amador Valley B/C, Cupertino Scholars B, Harker B/C/D, Sagittarius B, Saint Francis A/B

Sacramento December Middle School Tournament

The first Sacramento online Middle School Quiz Bowl tournament is taking place on Saturday, December 5 on Discord. There are two divisions: Varsity and JV. The field cap is currently 8 for both divisions; I’ll evaluate possible field expansion as we get closer to the date.

Registration takes place on the NAQT website here

Entry fee info is here. PayPal and check are the two methods of payment; let me know which you would prefer.

This competition uses the same questions as the Nov 21 online Bay Area Tournament; Sacramento teams are asked not to compete at that tournament (and vice-versa).
